The Busby team started the game with 6 first team players missing from the finishing team of last year and unfortunately they have not brought in any replacements. This looks like this is going to be a big problem for the coming season .Eastwood were runners up last season so this was always going to be a tough fixture.
The new season kicked off with a few new faces in the Under 15's. Busby had the advantage of the wind in the first half but failed to capitalize on it with a few near misses on the Barrhead goal but the forwards just could not find the net. The second half was a contrast with Barrhead taking full advantage of the wind to go on the attack and they got their reward with a goal 15 minutes into the second half. Unfortunately the Busby heads went down and Barrhead made it 2 with 20 minutes of the game left, somehow this seemed to wake the Busby lads up and they pressed forward.
Busby 15's poor run of form continued for the third successive game, with few players, if any, showing any sort of spirit or desire to pick themselves up from the slump. Busby started slowly and were 3-1 down by half-time. Conceding a goal almost straight from the re-start ended any doubts of who would be taking the 3 points, and even though they responded with 2 goals of their own, Busby never looked like getting anything from the game, nor did they deserve to.
Busby returned to league action after last weekends regional cup victory and ended the day with the same scoreline. Due to illness and players away, there were only 12 players available for selection. In a very one sided match Busby raced into a 3 goal lead and that would be the scoreline at half-time, with goals coming from David Cosgrove(double) and Jack Cain. The second 40mins continued in the same fashion with Busby seemingly on constant attack, David Cosgrove completed his hat-trick before adding another two to his tally to give him five for the day.
Busby travelled away for the third time in 4 league games to a St. Mirren team who boasted a 100% record in the division. After a tentative opening 15 minutes Busby broke the dead-lock when a Jack Cain shot looped over the keeper. The lead was then doubled when Mark McHendry volleyed home into the top left hand corner of the net leaving the keeper with no chance. Busby were now passing the ball well and after a scramble in the home teams box, Scott Miller slammed the ball home from close range to put Busby 3-0 up at half-time.
The Under 15s produced their best performance of the season so far in a tricky league tie away to Westerton Utd. Busby dominated the entire match from start to finish but somehow found themselves 2-0 behind, with the two Westerton goals coming as a result of sloppy defending and individual errors. The scoreline however would read 3-2 in Busbys' favour at the half time interval with goals coming from Stuart Taylor and a Mark McHendry double.
Busby started this Scottish Cup match well and took a deserved lead after 20 minutes. A good spell of possession and some quality passing lead to the opener with Mark McHendry finding David Cosgrove with a through ball and the striker smashed the ball into the top corner of the net. As is too common for the under 15s they then allowed Eastwood back into the game with sloppy passing and poor defending. This lead to the equaliser before the half-time break and then again after half-time when Eastwood deservedly took a 2-1 lead.
