Sun 24 Jan 2010 - West Regional Cup 2nd Round: Busby U17 1 - 3 Hillwood

A tough looking tie for Busby agaianst probably the best team at our age group in West of Scotland for last few years. Our task didn't get any easier when Hillwood scored after only about 5 minutes when we didn't clear a free kick into the box. For the rest of the first half we played by far the better football and dominated possession without creating clear cut chances. The Hillwood GK was excellent and held all the shots on his goal.
In the second half we continued to push forward and won a penalty. Unfortunately Robbie Falconer, who felt confident enough to take it ahead of our regular taker Shaun Alexander, saw his kick saved by the keeper who also saved the rebound from Alistair Gardner. Shortly after this Hillwood scored their second and it was controversial. The referee was watching Rudi Kingwaya and the Hillwood defender to ensure no off the ball incident but missed what was claimed to be a foul and clear offside by allowing Hillwood's 2nd goal to stand. Our boys were annoyed with this and let our heads go down and Hillwopod scored a third. We gained a consolation near the end when substitute Tony Guatella headed in an Ally Gardner cross
This was a disappointing result with a good performance and shows that we can compete with the best of the teams. However the failure to score the penalty in the 2nd half when on top proved crucial as was the controversial 2nd goal shortly after that should have been ruled out.
