As the result shows this was a typical Cup clash with lots of excitement and moments of drama for both teams. Vale of Leven took an early lead and put Busby's 21s under a lot of pressure from the start of the game. At half time Mark Gilfillan came into the game to replace Stevie Doyle on the defensive line for Busby and the Busby team pushed harder and created more chances. Both teams played good football and tried hard to win the battle particularly in the centre of the playing field. Nicky Green was close in scoring when in an individual effort his shot found the base of the right post and was diverted preventing the Busby team from equalising. Adam Hoggan scored the Busby equaliser in the second half after a free-kick was taken quickly by Craig Fry and the ball was delivered across Vale of Leven's six yard area by Ross King. A good performance by keeper Danny Wright kept the team in the contest and his work was even more valuable during the penalties shoot-out when he prevented the opposition from scoring on two occasions. Overall, the Busby team showed a winning character and attitude despite the early loss of a goal and it is important to note that at their Overlee home ground Busby's 21s have maintained an undefeated record for the past three games.
