Busby U21 3 - 2 Tower Hearts: Away at Stepford Park 16 August

A good result for the opening game of the season for the 21s with a win against Tower Hearts. In terms of performance our team did not reach the expected standards and the quality of football played was not satisfactory for Manager Nikos Koukos. Tower Hearts took a very early lead - within 20 seconds - after a cross from the wide area outside the 18 yard box was not defended by the Busby players and a Tower Hearts striker found himself unmarked in front of the goals and easily directed the ball in the net. As this was the 21s first game played; the Busby team appeared to lack match awareness and tactical understanding, while the team fitness showed 'below par' signs. Things were made harder by the opposition's effort to play good passing football and determination to put pressure against the Busby team. However, the Busby players must be praised for their willpower to win and after a couple of tactical and organisational changes they managed to achieve the desired result. Forward player Nicky Green scored an admirable goal with a direct distant strike while David Fry found the target on two occasions with one of the goals scored by a splendid direct free kick. Goalkeeper's Markos Koukos' contribution was critical with three valuable saves and Chris Harkin received the MOM award at the end of the game.
