LEAGUE CUP 21s: Thorniewood 0 - 6 Busby AFC (Priory Park)

An emphatic win by Busby's 21s which was only completed in the second part of the game after a fruitless first half. In the first 45 minutes Busby came very close in scoring on at least five occasions but were prevented either by the woodwork or missing the target at the last moment. Thorniewood proved to be a rather awkward team to break down in the first half and things were made more difficult by Busby's inability to hold possesion and by taking long time to settle. After the interval the Busby players managed to reach a good level of concentration and produced an excellent football display mainly by their style of play and determination to progress to the next round of the competition.

Putting aside a couple of minor incidents; Busby's defense did not experience major problems and performed well, linking nicely with the rest of the team and initiating some of the best forward moves which put the opposotion under pressure. The centre midfield was dominated by the good performances of Craig Fry and Scotty Rodgers as both players showed a hunger to claim a permanent stake at this position. Once again Adam Hoggan who was again one of the the starting 11 was extremely unlucky not to score on a couple of instances, while David Fry showed once more a degree of passion and determination throughout the whole game. Nicky Green's entry at half time proved to be the triggering mechanism for this victory as with his leading performance inspired the team's approach and raised everyone's standards.Individually and collectivelly the Busby 21s played very well and particularly in the second half the team showed signs of continuous improvement which satisfied the expectations of their manager Nikos Koukos.
