Local Derby, 1 November at Overlee : Busby 3 - 0 Eaglesham

Saturday dawned, bright clean and crisp which aptly describes Busby's play in the first 25 mins of this game. First goal in 3 mins from Davy Congolton, the second in 7 mins from Alex Donnelly

and the third in 19 mins via an O.G. It was really game over at this point but from the Eaglesham point of view they had their pride to play for and to be fair the final 20 mins of the first half belonged to Eaglesham but without ever troubling the Busby defence. I'm sure that the half time talk from coaches Roberts and Bruce would have asked for more of the same that Busby gave in the first 25 mins.

The second half, as very often happens when a game is killed early on, passed without any real incident with Busby seeing out the game with a disciplined and organised approach. Busby pressed and probed from all over the park with quality performances from Alex Donnelly, Billy McGhee and Davy Congolton. In a defence which coped very well with the Eaglesham attacks Barry Shields, young Andy Mellis(stepped up from the U21's and now learning his trade in defence and looking good) and Terry Divers all played with assurance and passion. Slightly disappointing was the performance from Andy Hicks which was not what I expected – this from a player who when young had a very bright future. Given the above performance Eaglesham although giving as good as they got (after the disastrous first 25) just couldn't and never looked like getting on top of the organised Busby team.

Finally, a word of mention for Scott Gilbertson who came and saw the game out for Busby using his skill and experience on the left hand side to press and where necessary hold up the play, not a bad for an oldie.
